Betty Lou Kaiser was born on Feb. 1, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to Frank and Ina (Kramer) Kaiser. She passed away on Sept. 10, 2011, at her home in Ainsworth at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 9 days. Betty and her older brother Dick moved with their parents from Washington, D.C., to Ainsworth when she was 3 years old. Betty’s love for animals began as a young child with her first pet, her chihuahua, Tiny Toodles. She nurtured and cared for many animals, strays and pets throughout her lifetime. She attended Ainsworth schools, graduating in 1960. Following high school, she worked as a telephone operator. On Sept. 26, 1961, she married the love of her life, Duane Lotspeich. They lived in Manhattan, Kan., while Duane served in the U.S. Army until 1962, when they moved to the Ed Ross ranch south of Long Pine. To this union were born three daughters, Jan, Beth and Marcy. In 1969, after Duane became quadriplegic due to a diving accident, the family moved to Ainsworth. With three children, all under the age of 5, Betty learned to become the sole caregiver of her husband. Faced daily with difficult challenges, she met them continually with grace and determination. Betty enjoyed many years of providing child care for several children in the community. She was an outstanding homemaker and cook. A dedicated wife and mother, she always put her husband and children first. She was a beautiful Christian woman. As a mother, friend and grandmother, her example influenced and touched all of our lives. She will be greatly missed, but we take comfort knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane and nephew Robert. Leaving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jannette (Jan) Epperly and husband Darin, Elizabeth (Beth) and husband Roger, all of Norfolk, Marcene (Marcy) Weis and fiance Rod Kisor of Stanton; eight grandchildren, Kaytlin and Jackson Epperly, Christopher and Emily Davis, Jesse, Samantha, Seth and Kirsten Weis; one brother, Richard Kaiser and wife Kaye of Leesburg, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Lola Nelsen and husband Ron and Elaine Fling and husband Kenny, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. Special music was offered by Sherry Campbell and Lisa Wiebesiek with special selections of “Joy Comes in the Morning” and “I Can Only Imagine.” Congregational selections were “Because He Lives” and “When We All Get to Heaven.” Pallbearers were Christopher Davis, Jesse Weis, Seth Weis, Roger Davis, Darin Epperly, Rod Kisor, Kale Burdick and Trey Burdick. Honorary pallbearers were all of Betty’s other family and friends. Special remarks were given by Christopher Davis, Judy Glassburner, Jami Burdick and Jesse Weis.
