She is survived by three sons, Thomas Provens of Thurman, Ohio, Dale E. Provens of Columbus, Ohio, Garold Provens of North Carolina, eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Services will be at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Phillip Taylor officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 12-2 prior to service. However, she was a giant to her family as they watched her work side by side with her husband in the fields on their farm. She stopped only to take care of the daily living requirements of her family…meals, washings, ironings, and running her house. Her children remember walking up Provens Lane from school to the smell of homemade bread baking in the oven and sitting down to meals of homemade butter, homemade cottage cheese, pies, meat produced on their parent’s farm, and to a delicious array of vegetables grown by their mother in her vegetable garden. During the Depression years of the 30’s and the lonely years of the 40’s while her husband served his country in WWII, she met the needs of her children with determination. She, like many women of her generation, even though her physical health was poor, assumed the hard tasks of using a wringer type washer, heating the water for the wash, hanging clothes on lines to dry in summer’s blistering heat and winter’s freezing temperatures. She grew, made, or preserved most of the food she served during the first 40 years of her marriage. She came from a hardy generation. Her family loved her, appreciated her belief in God, and valued her advice that they should live by God’s teachings. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Harold Provens in 2004. She loved each one of her sons: Tom, Eddie, and Gary until the end. Teaching her children to live honestly and honorably, taking care of her family, serving home cooked meals, paying bills on time, laughing with and loving her family that was important to her. She will be sadly missed by those who loved her. She was a good woman, a good mother, a woman of faith.
