Born March 3, 1941 in Lantz, MD,(Frederick County) she was the daughter of the late James Arthur and Catherine E. Wetzel McKissick. Mrs. Brown was co-owner of Brown's Jewelry and Gift Shop for 29 years. She and her husband John always enjoyed meeting and working with their valued customers. Brown, of Thurmont, MD, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, December 2, 2009. Born March 3, 1941 in Lantz, MD,(Frederick County) she was the daughter of the late James Arthur and Catherine E. Wetzel McKissick. Mrs. Brown was co-owner of Brown's Jewelry and Gift Shop for 29 years. She and her husband John always enjoyed meeting and working with their valued customers. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Thurmont, MD, Betty was dedicated to the mission of St. John's Preschool. As a former preschool teacher, and as the current chairperson, Betty spent 36 years ensuring that hundreds of young children in the community received a quality educational experience. However, her real passion was her time spent with her family. Committed as a wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty thoroughly enjoyed being with her family. An important annual event that Betty treasured was vacationing in North Carolina with her grandchildren, Eric and Emily. Eric and Emily brought her great joy and being with them was a great pleasure for her. She was the wife of John W. E. Brown and in addition to him, she is survived by her daughter, Stacey Brown-Hobbs and husband Michael F. Hobbs of Thurmont, MD; two grandchildren, Eric William Hobbs and Emily Catherine Hobbs; a sister, Mary V. Lantz of Gettysburg; two nieces, JoEllen Miller and Patricia Minnich; and a nephew, Harvey Wetzel. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene McKissick; a sister, Elsie Wetzel; and a nephew, Franklin Lantz.
