Description	:	GRAND MOUND, Iowa - Betty Denahy, 83, of Grand Mound, was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Wheatland, Iowa, and her journey ended Feb.8, 2010, at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home with her loving daughter, Connie, and her family at her side. Her parents were Raymond Smith and Clara Larsen Smith. Betty married Marion Denahy on July 21, 1951, in Lost Nation. He died July 30, 1979. Funeral services will be noon Thursday at Chapman Funeral Home, Wheatland. Visitation is 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. The Rev. John Cofield will officiate. Her parents were Raymond Smith and Clara Larsen Smith. Betty married Marion Denahy on July 21, 1951, in Lost Nation. He died July 30, 1979. Betty and her husband Marion had farmed and they operated Wapsie Oaks Country Club 1974 and 1975. Betty will be remembered for always feeding her finches and cardinals. She was also known for her excellent home cooking. Some of her favorite things were shopping, going out to eat, flowers and gardening. She was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Iowa basketball. Betty was a member of the Womens Auxiliary in Calamus and Ladies Card Club. Survivors include a daughter, Connie Bowers, of Calamus; granddaughters, Michele Bowers, of DeWitt, Carrie (Ronnie) Wells, of Calamus, and Brooke Bowers, of DeWitt; and great-grandchildren, Lane, Lauren, Morgan and Mason. She also is survived by another daughter, Pamela Schau, and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, LaVonne Rohling, and a great-grandchild.
