Description	:	Edgington, 82, of Sheffield, died Friday (June 5, 2009) at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colo. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Sheffield with the Rev. R. Karl Watkins presiding. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield. Betty Louise Homestead was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Crosby, ND the younger daughter of Bill and Gertie (Hoverstein) Homestead. She grew up in Crosby with her sister Lorraine and great friends, Ardy Bilstad and Beverly Bummer. She loved many activities in school, particularly the pep squad. Betty attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., with Ardy for one fun filled year before transferring to Iowa State University to major in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics at Sheffield High School starting in 1949 for two years then taught one year in Thornton. On Dec. 27, 1950, Betty married Floyd Edgington Jr. at Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield. She became involved in F&S Study Club as a charter member and Methodist Church activities. She enjoyed being a 4-H leader, Eastern Star Member and raising her son Bryan and daughter Valerie. She also kept the books for the family farming operation and real estate business and operated the 'One Stop' gas and convenience store in Sheffield. Those waiting in heaven for her include her parents, Bill and Gertie Homestead; sister, Lorraine; and favorite dogs: Lucky I & II, Ruff, Brandy, Macho, Freckles and Miter. Dogs always recognized her gentle soul and warmed to her immediately. Her great sense of humor and generous spirit attracted family and friends of all ages. She will be missed by husband, Jr; of Sheffield; son, Bryan and friend, Holly Snyder, of Rifle, Colo.; daughter, Val and friend Gary Claypool, of Aspen, Colo.; niece Tracey Lee and Terry, of Webster, Iowa; nephew, Taylor Hansing, of Bonita, Calif.; sister-in-law: Margaret Mateer, of Sheffield; nephew, Bill (Cindy) Mateer, of Sheffield; niece: Marilee Oldorf and other family and friends.
