Description	:	Betty Lucille Paronto Shay passed away early Sunday morning April 27, 2014, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. Her daughter was with her at her time of death. Betty was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Lawrence, Kan., the second child of 12, to Orville Lee and Tirzah Paronto. She was raised by Laura and Teddy Jacobson in Laurel, and graduated from Laurel High School in 1942 and from Saint Vincent School of Nursing in 1945. Read More	Betty Lucille Paronto Shay passed away early Sunday morning April 27, 2014, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. Her daughter was with her at her time of death. Betty was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Lawrence, Kan., the second child of 12, to Orville Lee and Tirzah Paronto. She was raised by Laura and Teddy Jacobson in Laurel, and graduated from Laurel High School in 1942 and from Saint Vincent School of Nursing in 1945. Betty married Jake Stahley in 1946 and they had two children, Vicki Jo and Gary Allan. They ran the Orchid Cleaners in Laurel together until they divorced in 1972. Betty went back to nursing in 1969 and worked at Saint Vincent Healthcare in pediatrics until she retired in 1986. At an all-school reunion in Laurel, Betty reunited with Don Shay, also of Laurel. They seemed like a perfect match and were married in 1977. They lived at the Yellowstone Boys Ranch, where Don was employed until retirement in 1987. Betty gained five children and 11 grandchildren with that union and loved her extended family. Betty and Don enjoyed traveling with family and friends during their retirement years, especially the many trips to Jackpot, Nev. Don and Betty would say they had 37 wonderful years together. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved playing cards and spending time with her family. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Gary; her parents; brothers Bud, Blair, Gene, and Bill Paronto; sisters Mary Margret, Ina Iola and Pam. She is survived by husband, Don; sisters Velma Gratwohl, June Paronto, Patsy Bach; brother Howard Paronto; daughter Vicki Jo Lawrence Smith (Stuart); son Tim Shay (Mary Beth); daughters Gail Wilson (Tom); Susan Olson (Greg); Debby Sorg (Steve); son Terry Shay (Rose); grandchildren Bonni Lawrence, Brian Lawrence, Alyssa Strauch, Stephanie Burke, Bryan Severin, Eric Severin, Betsy Olson, Kelli Pelc, Andy Sorg, Nick Sorg, Heather Shay, Jessica Vandenberg, Alex Shay; and 17 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, at the Methodist Church in Laurel. Memorials can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children at PO Box 2472, Spokane, WA 99210.
