Betty was born on August 24, 1913, in Muscatine, the daughter of Louis P. and Laura D. Dubois Begey. She married Carl Jacob Lucas in December of 1937, and he preceded her in death on November 11, 1949. She was a graduate of St. Anthony Nursing School, Rock Island, Ill., and worked as a nurse at Bellevue Hospital and did private nursing. She also worked at H.J. Heinz as a company nurse and then for Dr. Wilcox until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, and making Christmas stockings for her family. She also enjoyed and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Dave Lucas, Muscatine, and Tom Lucas and wife, Susan of Papillion, Neb.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Begey and wife, Alleyne, Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Delavan Begey. Casket bearers will be Mark Begey, Eric Begey, Jay Kemp, Alex Kemp, Scott Lucas, and Keith Lucas.
