I guess the kids have the whooping cough alright. We have had our hardest streak of luck or whatever it is. Betty Mae had to go. She died Tuesday night, March 22, at 11 o'clock. We had her to Pierre but the right doctor was away taking some more training and the one that was there didn't seem to think there was anything wrong except she needed a change of feed. So we brought her home and took her to Cherry Creek and kept her there a few days. They fed her on oatmeal water, rice water, toast water, and alcohol and water for 3 weeks but she was getting weaker all the time. Finally she just gave up eating, and we just gave her cool water for about 48 hours at the last. She was, or seemed to be, comfortable and either slept or just looked around bright eyed as ever, and went almost without a struggle. We feel she was never quite right or that the milk ws a kind of poison to her. We buried her on Robbs Flat near a school house across the river south of us.
