Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Betty Marie (White) Hessenius was born on Friday; November 29, 1929 in Melbourne; Marshall County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ralph and Nellie (Davidson) White. She was raised and educated in Melbourne, graduating from the Melbourne High School. She attended and graduated from Iowa State University where she received her B.A. and Masters Degree in education and home economics. On Saturday; October 25, 1952, she was united in marriage to Richard Hessenius, her high school sweetheart, in Melbourne, Iowa. The two moved to Ft. Bragg; Cumberland County, North Carolina, while Richard was in the military. In 1955 they returned to Iowa and within the year moved to Green Mountain; Marshall County, Iowa and lived there for forty years working and enjoying life with their many friends and family. Betty spent her working years teaching home economics in the Green Mountain High School. She taught many young people to embrace her love of cooking and sewing. Betty and Richard spent quality time reading, gardening, and planting several flower beds. Another important aspect to Betty's life was traveling with her family. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. On her travels to Europe she was able to visit each of the four exchange students she hosted. Over time, these four girls became a part of the Hessenius family. Family was very important to Betty, so when she retired in 1993 she and Richard moved to a new home in Marshalltown in 1997. All three of Betty's children live in town and this allowed Betty to see them often along with her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They also spent part of each winter in Arizona where they met many wonderful people. While in Arizona Betty was able to continue her many hobbies and start new ones. Betty Marie (White) Hessenius, 77, of Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa, formerly a longtime resident of Green Mountain, passed away on Sunday; January 28, 2007, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Those left to mourn her passing are her husband: Richard Hessenius of Marshalltown; her three loving children: David (Kathy) Hessenius, Peggy Lynch, and Bob (Dana) Hessenius, all of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Browder, Emily (Justin) Rash, Heather (Brandon) Craighton, Chase Hessenius and Morgan Hessenius; six great-grandchildren; a brother: Ralph Red (Ginny) White of Melbourne; a sister-in-law: Patricia White; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Lawrence White, and leaves behind many fond memories for everyone to cherish. May her parents and her brother rest in peace. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday; January 31, 2007 at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, where the family will be present to greet friends. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday; February 1, 2007 at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Following services, Mrs. Hessenius will be laid to rest in the Green Mountain Cemetery. Memorials may be directed in her name for the flower gardens for GMG Elementary and Hope United Methodist Church, which may be sent to Pursel-Davis Funeral Home.
