Description	:	Highland Recorder September 10, 1943 SCHOOL GIRL DIES The people of Monterey and surrounding communities were saddened by the death of Betty Beverage, which occurred during the early afternoon hours of Saturday, September 4, at the home of her mother, Mrs. Sadie Beverage. She had submitted to a tonsil and adenoid operation in Staunton ten days ago, and was apparently getting along normally, until hemorrhages and complications developed. She had submitted to a tonsil and adenoid operation in Staunton ten days ago, and was apparently getting along normally, until hemorrhages and complications developed. In fact she had enjoyed cutting out paper dolls the day before with the same care and interest as usual. She was the dainty and attractive ten-year-old daughter of Mrs Sadie Halterman Beverage and the late Marvin L. Beverage. In her school work she had been unusually bright and alert, and by her sweet and gentle disposition had won the affection of her teacher and classmates. She had been anticipating the reopening of school and early return with school friends. She was a zealous member of the Junior department of the Monterey church school and a regular and interested attendant. She is survived by her mother, two brothers: Marvin L. Beverage, a member of the Armed Forces, stationed at Ft. Riley, Kan., and Frank Beverage, a younger brother, at home; her maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs. Wm M. Halterman and paternal grandmother, Mrs Boyd Beverage, and a number of close relatives. Her father died just a year ago this month. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 8, 1943, at 2:30 from the Methodist Church. The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. L.P. Foley, assisted by Rev H.E. Skelton, of Crabbottom A duet. “Gathering Buds” was sung by Mrs. Lightner and Mrs. Hickman. Other selections were. “I Think When I Read That Sweet Story of Old”.
