Betty Griswold of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Monday, July 18, 1988 at her home in Kadoka at the age of 65 Betty Rittel was born January 31, 1923, in Gregory, South Dakota, to Sol and Ella (Brandt) Rittel. As a child she moved with her parents to Wanblee, South Dakota, where she grew up. She was educated in the Wanblee and Belvidere areas. Betty was united in marriage to Loyd Griswold on November 8, 1941, at Springview, Nebraska. They operated a ranch near Belvidere until moving into Kadoka in the 1950s. They operated the Cresent Court Motel in Kadoka until the early 1980s. Betty also worked many years for the city of Kadoka as a custodian at the city auditorium. She reitred about three months before her death due to ill health. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, both of Kadoka. Survivors include a son, Loyd "Butch" Griswold, of Estes Park, Colorado; two daughters, Patty (Mrs. Don) Harvey of Interior, and Carol (Mrs. Ben) Taylor of Kadoka; her mother, Ella Rittel of Kadoka; two brothers, Bob Rittel of Black Hawk, and Niel Rittel of Roosevelt, Utah; three sisters, Mary Jane (Mrs. Andy) Hemmingson of Kadoka, Darlene (Mrs. Ronald) McCormick of Pierre, and Marcelene (Mrs. Oscar) Kukal of Walla Walla, Washington; six grandchildren and one great-grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd, on June 13, 1987, and by a brother, Merle Rittel. A memorial has been established.
