Betty was born June 21, 1937 to Don and Fern (Spencer) Bibby in Centerville, Iowa. Graduating from Davis County High school in 1956, she married LaVerne Thompson on June 10, 1956 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Betty was actively involved in her church serving in ministries of music, children's classes of all ages, and cooking and baking for various church activities. She had recently been attending North Court Baptist Church in Ottumwa. While raising her family in the Bloomfield area, Betty studied music. From 1978 to 2000, she gave piano lessons in her home to numerous families in the community, and after retirement continued teaching her grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed family gatherings. Grandma's house was always the favorite place to be! She was a good example to her family in her daily walk with the Lord. Surviving are her husband Laverne and children Larry (Jewel) Thompson of Moulton, Cindy (Todd) Griepentrog of Ottumwa, Dan (Robyn) Thompson, Rick Thompson, and Brent (Annette) Thompson all of Bloomfield. Her loving grandchildren are David, Melody, Matt, Mark, Whitney, Tyler, Jordyn, Olyvia, Clayton, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Logan Joe Bibby. The family is grateful to the Bloomfield Care Center staff for their dedicated, loving care. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Roger Hemmings and Rev. Mark Griepentrog officiating. Burial will be at the Floris Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Bloomfield Care Center Activity Fund and the North Court Baptist Church. Online condolences may be directed to www.waglerfuneralhome.com.
