Beulah "Bea" Read, the daughter of Arthur and Mattie (Jacobs) Coburn, was born April 20, 1917, in Brooklyn, Iowa. She was raised in Brooklyn, attending Brooklyn Public School, where she graduated in 1935. Bea was united in marriage to Chalmer Read in 1936. The couple farmed for two years and moved to Brooklyn where they lived until 1958. The family then moved to Algona, where they opened their own furniture business, Read's Furniture, Inc., where Bea was the office manager. Upon their retirement in 1982, they wintered in Arizona, and made their permanent home in Okoboji, Iowa. Bea was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, where she was active teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She was also a charter member of the Emanon Club. She loved homemaking, craft work, sewing, and most of all, her family. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chalmer, of Okoboji; daughters, Kae Koehn, and her husband, Vernon, of Victor, Iowa; Sherry Lawson and her husband, Lee, of Ft. Wayne, IN; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Donald Coburn; sister-in-law, Birdie Coburn; and sister, Dorothy Coburn. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers and one grandson.
