The slaying occurred on the C. N. Myers farm, near Bachman's church in Carroll County, Maryland. John Roser is a tenant on the farm and Mrs. and Mrs. Preston Blank, brother-in-law and sister of the murdered woman work for Roser. Marsh, who was still at large today, is said to have fled northward across the Mason-Dixon line. he is described as a man of slight statue, about five feet, five inches tall and weighing about 125 pounds. He is bald and clean shaven. Was Milking Cows Mrs. Marsh was milking in the barnyard when her husband approached her and opened fire at close range with a double barrelled shotgun, one load entering her head at the right temple and the other lodging in her right side just under the shoulder. Without hurrying, March left the scene of the killing, closing the barnyard gate behind him. The tragedy was witnessed by George Willet, 10, who lives with the Roser family. Marsh was last seen walking across the fields in a northerly direction. He is said to have threatened the lives of two or three persons after shooting his wife. The local sub-station of the state police was notified of the shooting about 10 o'clock, Wednesday night, and Trooper Floyd L. Maurer drove to the Marsh home, a short distance from the Roser place. A search of the Marsh premises by Trooper Maurer failed to show any signs that the fugitive had returned there after the shooting. The officer patrolled the road between Littlestown and Union Mills in an effort to apprehend Marsh, but found no trace of the man. Couple Quarreled The murder was the culmination of a year of domestic unhappiness in the Marsh home, which is located about a quarter mile from Deep Run schoolhouse. Marsh, it is said, had on frequent occasions threatened his wife. Last Sunday the Marshes were said to have had a violent quarrel, which ended in Mrs. marsh leaving home and going to live with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Flickinger, near Union Mills. Marsh followed her to the parental home, from which he was driven away. Fearing his return, Mrs. marsh went to the home of a sister, Mrs. Preston Blank, near Baughman's church, on Tuesday. Carroll county officers and posses began hunting for Marsh as soon as word of the shooting was received in Westminster. It was learned that on Monday, Mrs. Marsh appeared before a Westminster justice of the peace, where she laid an information against her husband, charging him with assault and battery with intent to kill. Coroner George E. Benson, of Carroll county, viewed the body, and allowed John W. Little, Littlestown undertaker, to remove it to his place to be prepared for burial. An inquest into the woman's death was held this afternoon when Marsh was formally accused as her slayer. Funeral Saturday Mrs. Marsh is survived by two children, Pauline, 10 and John, 4; four sisters, Mrs. Preston Blank, where the shooting occurred: Mrs. Jacob Hahn, Deatrick's Mill: Mrs. Daniel Bair, York: Mrs. George Utz, Near Union Mills; three brothers, Sterling Flickinger, near Mayberry; Curvin Flickinger, Union Mills, and Bernard, at home. Her parents also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the Blank home, with internment at Bachman's church. The Gettysburg Times {Gettysburg Pennsylvania} April 11, 1929 Murdered Woman Buried Saturday Beulah Elizabeth Marsh, the 28 year old wife of John Orestus Marsh, who was shot to death by her husband, was buried Saturday in the little cemetery at Bachman's church, Carroll county, within sight of which the tragedy had occurred. A large number of neighbors and relatives gathered for the simple services at 1 o'clock at the home of the sister, Mrs. Preston Blank, who resides on the former Wine farm in Bachman's valley. It was on the barnyard at this place that the shooting took place. The mourning friends gathered about the body where it lay in surrounded by floral tributes in the front room of the farm house and listened to a funeral sermon preached by Rev. J.B. Lau, pastor of Bachman's Lutheran church. Several sacred selections were sung by the Bachman church choir. Then the cortage proceeded to the church burial grounds, barely a quarter of a mile distant, where brief commitment services were held. Four neighbors acted a pallbearers.
