Beulah Ruth Vande Stouwe was born September 11, 1927, in Hull, the daughter of Alfred and Alice (Kooiker) Vande Stouwe. She graduated from Boyden Junior-Senior High School in 1945. She married John Raymond Witte on November 14, 1947, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. They lived in Perkins, Hull and Rock Valley. She was employed with the Rock Valley Community School District as a lunchroom cook for 32 years, until she retired. She then became employed as a cook at the Rock Valley Senior Center in Rock Valley. Raymond preceded her in death on September 18, 1970. She was a member of Pioneer United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Ruby Circle, where she served as task chairman for many years. She enjoyed cooking, her garden, sewing, embroidering, playing cards, Liverpool rummy and Solitaire and was an Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball and Minnesota Twins fan. Above all, she loved the time she spent with her family. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (David) Ranschau of Sioux Falls, SD, and Teresa (Joseph) Svec of Iowa City; two sons, Raymond (Jan) Witte of Fergus Falls, MN, and Charles (Linda) Witte of Wheatland, WY; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Petersen of Battle Creek; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Freemon, Vernon and Robert Vande Stouwe, one sister, Myona Heerde, one brother-in-law, Vernus Petersen and one niece, Noreen Bonestroo.
