Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Beulah T. de Buhr Memorial Fund. Beulah was born on Nov. 5, 1921 in Ulster Township, the daughter of Walter and Amy "Warren" Keifer. She attended rural school and graduated from Rockford High School Class of 1940. She worked at the defense plant in Ankeny for a year then served her country honorably in the United States Navy as a Wave for two years. During that time she was privileged to march at Franklin D. Roosevelt's funeral. She spent most of her military time in New York, being discharged in January of 1946. After returning home, she worked as a secretary at Dr. Salsbury's laboratory for several years. Beulah served on the Social Welfare board for Floyd County and assisted and supported her husband in his public responsibilities both on the city and county levels. She was an active member of the Walker Graper American Legion for over 50 years. Beulah was a confirmed member of the Zion Lutheran Church, active in teaching Sunday and Bible School, and working with her church circle. On Oct. 4, 1949, Beulah was united in marriage to Bernard A. "Ben" de Buhr and to this union were born two children, David and Dianne. All of her activities were superseded by her love of family, especially her grandchildren whose accomplishments gave her great pride. She was happiest when the family and friends over flowed her home which often became the hub for activities pertaining to her husband's business, bookkeeping and appointments, political interests and the family rites of passages. While her eyesight allowed, she enjoyed her gardening, crocheting, and ceramic work. Left to cherish her wonderful memories are her daughter, Dianne and her husband, Alan Christeson and their two children, Garrett and Brent, all of Rockford; her son, David and his wife, Sue de Buhr and their two children, Neal and Nicholas, of Cedar Falls; one sister, Audry Norman, of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Florence Keifer, both of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews, and other cherished relatives and friends.
