He married Betty J. Day on August 18, 1958. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2000. Edward Kuntz, 84, of Ottumwa, died April 28, 2015, at his home. He was born February 21, 1931, in Brooklyn, Iowa, to William Bevan and Effie Attelson Kuntz. He married Betty J. Day on August 18, 1958. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2000. A graduate of Brooklyn High School, Ed earned a B.A. from William Penn College and an M.A. in guidance and an M.A. in administration from Drake University. From 1954 to 1956 he served with the U.S. Army Intelligence. His career began in 1958 as a guidance counselor and teacher at Eddyville High School. In 1963 came to Ottumwa High School, where he was guidance counselor from 1963 to 1970, assistant principal from 1970 to 1981 and principal from 1981 to 1994. He taught psychology at Buena Vista University from 1994 to 2000. Ed was a member of the Ottumwa Rotary Club, Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce, State Archeological Society, State Historical Society and member and past president of Wapello County Historical Society, a member of National Association of Secondary Principals, Iowa Association of School Administrators and the National Rifle Association. He had served on the boards of Siddartha House, Junior Achievement, Izaak Walton League, Boy Scouts of America, was past president and board member of Southeast Iowa Library Board of Trustees and board member of Ottumwa Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustment. Ed enjoyed gardening, RAGBRAI, reading, history and spending time with Marge. Surviving are his loving companion, Marjorie Jackson of Oskaloosa; a son, Mike (Emily) of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Lisa of Davenport; three grandchildren, Michael, Abbey and Meg; two brothers, Ronald (Carla) Kuntz of Des Moines and Duane "Ratt" (Laurie) Kuntz of Hills, Minnesota; a sister, Sara (Denny) Younkin of Brooklyn, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Disburg officiating. The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Inurnment will be at a later date in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wapello County Historical Society. Published on April 29, 2015
