She passed away of natural causes at 4:55 PM on February 12, 2020 at Seal Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center, Seal Beach, California. Surviving are her three sons, Jerry Kerby (Carr), 62, of St. Louis, Missouri; Michael Kerby, 59, of Marietta, Georgia; Don Kerby, 58, of Ottumwa, Iowa; one aunt, Mary Ann Seastrand of De Witt, Iowa; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Beverly’s wishes were to be cremated and no service. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held in her memory on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 1 PM to 4 PM at The Hub, 133 W. 2nd St., Ottumwa. She passed away of natural causes at 4:55 PM on February 12, 2020 at Seal Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center, Seal Beach, California. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1956. While living in California she worked over 25 years at Quaker Gardens Retirement Living Community, Stanton, California, as a nurses aid. In retirement she spent most of her time enjoying baseball games, football, casinos and beaches with her late husband Robert (Bucky) Buckenhizer. She was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan and Bucky a Michigan State fan. To say the least when the two teams played against each other it was quite interesting. Living in California she loved to go to Anaheim Angels ball games and she and Bucky travelled with family to different regions of the country to watch grandson Kyle play traveling baseball. She was very proud of him as she was with all of her 13 total grandchildren and step grandchildren, Brianna, Ally, Andrea, Rachel, Kurtis, Kyle, Travis, Jessica, Cayne, Ryan, Jesse, Tanner and Jacob. She was blessed with 14 great and step great grandchildren. After Buckys passing she took many trips with her girlfriends in California, dined out with them and just tried enjoying life. Her weekly ritual was going to the salon and getting her hair fluffed up. She also loved to talk on the phone and sometimes you could not get a word in edgewise. But it was always nice to catch up with her weekly. Her phone calls will be missed as all of ours to her. Beverly had many near and dear close friends that she kept in close contact with. Dick and Peggy Bates, Norley and Shirley Smith, Ron and Betty Wymore and Jack and Shirley Hughes. Betty and she were “best friends“ and they had a special word that only they could call each other. It starts with the letter B but you can use your imagination. Surviving are her three sons and their spouses Jerry and Marla Kerby of St. Louis Metro East, Michael and Liz Kerby of Marietta, Georgia and Don and Jackie Kerby of Ottumwa, Iowa; aunt, Mary Ann Seastrand of De Witt, Iowa; uncle Gene Shoemaker of Ottumwa; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Beverly’s wishes were to be cremated. She will be laid to rest with her parents.
