Brad Kihlthau officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Jones Mortuary. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery near Morrill. She died peacefully at her home on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006. Born Aug. 22, 1936, to Alton and Grace (Hauptman) Asa in Morrill, she attended schools there and graduated from Morrill High School. She graduated from the West Nebraska Hospital School of Nursing, and from Grace Bible Institute. Her life was dedicated to healing others first as the Director of Nursing Services for West Nebraska General Hospital. After graduating from the Baylor Hospital School of Anesthesia, she served under the Evangelical Alliance Mission at the Karanda Mission Hospital as a missionary nurse anesthetist in Zimbabwe from 1966 to 1978. She also taught senior Zimbabwean nursing students study skills for essay questions for final tests in their native language of Shona. When terrorist activity forced the hospital to close, she returned home and worked at Lemmon, S.D., for a short time. From 1980 through 1990, she worked as a nurse anesthetist at Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center in Kirkville, Mo. She then worked for Fanhandle Anesthesia Associates at Regional West Medical Center from 1990 until her retirement in 2002. She was listed in the 1965 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America. She was a member of the Henry Bible Church and also attended Calvary Memorial E-Free Church in Gering, which was one of her supporting churches during her missionary career. She was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, in 2005. Survivors include her brother, Alvin Asa and his wife of Morrill; her sister, Virginia Waterman and her husband of Casper; two nieces; three nephews; and many great and great-greatgrandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her two sisters, Shirley Lee and Mary Ann.
