Description	:	Obituary - 15 March 1900 issue of the Fremont County (Iowa) Herald carried the following obituary for Bezaleel. Death of Grandpa Laport: Died -- on Monday, March 12, 1900, at 6:20 p.m., Basil Laport, aged 82 years. Mr. Laport was born in Ohio in 1818 and moved to Iowa in 1856, locating in Fremont County. For some years he lived in Thurman, removing to Sidney about 16 years ago. He was a wagon maker by trade, practicing his vocation while he had sufficient strength to labor. Death of Grandpa Laport: Died -- on Monday, March 12, 1900, at 6:20 p.m., Basil Laport, aged 82 years. Mr. Laport was born in Ohio in 1818 and moved to Iowa in 1856, locating in Fremont County. For some years he lived in Thurman, removing to Sidney about 16 years ago. He was a wagon maker by trade, practicing his vocation while he had sufficient strength to labor. About five years ago Mrs. Laport died, since which time he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. E. A. Travis. Mr. Laport was the father of six children, only two of whom survive, Mrs. Travis and a son who lives near Bradshaw, Nebraska. Mr. Laport comes from a large family, being one of 14 children, some of whom survive. The funeral was held at the home of Mr. Travis, conducted by Rev. C.W. Riches of the Baptist church. Interment was made at the Sidney Cemetery. Mr. Laport was sick about four weeks, his disease being pneumonia accentuated by the weakness of old age. Thus, stricken in years and borne down by infirmity was this aged pilgrim gathered to his fathers.
