| Description | : | Brigadier General in the Kansas Militia. He was the first Sheriff of Linn County, Kansas. He was a Free-Statesmen during the Border War-Bleeding Kansas events, just prior to the Civil War. He was heavily involved in the fight against slavery and worked closely with his friends and well known abolitionists, Colonel James Montgomery, General Robert B. Mitchell and John Brown. In 1858, he was elected as Brigadier General to the 8th Brigade of the Kansas Militia by the Territorial Legislature.
