Description	:	He was a Revolutionary War hero and was known as Gen. Washington's Colonel. He carried the wounded Lafayette off the Brandywine battlefield. Col. of the CT State Regiment, July to Dec. 1776; Col. 7th CT 1777; transferred to 2nd CT, 1781; put down a near mutiny of CT troops in 1782; retained as Colonel of the Consolidated CT Regiment in June, 1783 and brevetted Brigadier-General on Sept. 30, 1783 and served until Dec. of that year. He was married in 1793 to Sarah Robinson (1751-1804) the daughter of Capt. Samuel Robinson, founder of Bennington, VT. Sarah was struck and killed by lighting during an April storm. Some say Gen. Swift went insane after her death.
