Honored friends carrying Bill to his final resting place in Harlem Cemetery were Gene Cowell, Art Egbert, Bill Pitch, Dan O'Leary, Keith Benson and Jim Epler. Full military ties, under the direction of Officer of the Day Shafter Mummey, were conducted. V.F.W. Post 4744 members in the color guard were Bob Bergstrom, Rueben Kuntz, Charles Brekke and Rudy Uhlich. The firing squad consisted of Les Mummey, Bob Rasmussen, Bud Gill, Jim Ellis, Skrud Brekke, Greg Hellman, Jay Miller and Paul Doubek. Bill Hay assisted Officer of the Day Mummey in folding the American Flag that was presented to Shirley. Taps were sounded under the direction of Bud Russell as many friends bid Bill their last goodbye. Billy T. Richman was welcomed into the lives of Vern and Myrtle Richman in Harlem on June 12, 1931. Awaiting his arrival also was a brother, Jack, and three sisters, Donna, Beth and Clea. He was a joy to this family and soon found his place in their hearts. His beloved mother passed away while Bill was yet a young boy and his devoted father and family tried in every way to fill that vacancy in his life. Bill attended Harlem schools for his education, later joining the U.S. Navy. After a hitch in the Navy, he returned to Harlem. On June 11, 1950 he took Shirley Goodheart as his bride. They made their home in Havre for a period of time, then returned to Harlem where Bill was employed at the Merry Market where he was a faithful and trusted employee for several years. During this time Bill was active in the V.F.W. Post 4744 and worked with young people as an instructor in the Junior Rifle Club. Ryan Havre then called him to Havre where he worked in the wholesale grocery line. Bill was good in the grocery business and moved on to his own store in Poplar where he and Shirley ran the store. In 1974 Bill's health started to fail and the family returned to Harlem. They had been blessed with three sons and one daughter who were happy to return home. Bill gave up his life on this earth July 12, 1984 at the age of 53 in Great Falls after a year-long hard fought battle with cancer. Surviving besides his wife Shirley, are sons, Jim of Havre, John and George of Zortman; daughter, Debbie Berg of Wolf Point; also six grandchildren; his father, Vern and stepmother, Ruby Richman of Milton-Freewater, OR; brother, Jack of Harlem; sisters, Clea Bergren of Havre and Beth McGuire of Harlem. Many nieces and nephews will also miss their "Uncle Bill," as well as a host of classmates and old friends. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a baby brother and two sisters, Colleen and Donna.
