Mr. Hockman, 87, of Rochester, MN, and formerly of Ames, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester. Bill Ward Hockman was born Dec. 24, 1924 in Cincinatti, Iowa to Roy and Fannie (Smith) Hockman. He was raised in Ames where he attended High School. Mr. Hockman, 87, of Rochester, MN, and formerly of Ames, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester. Bill Ward Hockman was born Dec. 24, 1924 in Cincinatti, Iowa to Roy and Fannie (Smith) Hockman. He was raised in Ames where he attended High School. He worked for his father, a painting contractor, at Roy Hockman and Sons. Bill served in the U.S. Navy. On Dec. 19, 1946 he married Ruth Marian Buechler in Boone, Iowa. The couple made their home in Ames. He worked at Iowa State University until his retirement. The couple moved to Rochester on Oct. 31, 2009. Ruth died March 13, 2012. Bill was a member of the Arcadia Masonic Lodge #249 A.F. & A.M. in Ames where he progressed through all the chairs. He also did volunteer work for the First Christian Church of Ames. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and was an avid ISU Football Fan. Bill is survived by his daughter, Elaine (John) Cummings of Rochester; two sons, David (Michele) Hockman of Olathe, Kansas; and Kurt (Monica) Hockman of Garland, Texas, three granddaughters, Katherine, and Jessica Cummings, and Marissa Hockman; his sister, Lynda (Oge) Forre of , and his brother, Paul (Rene) Hockman of Jewell, Iowa. His wife, parents, one brother, and two sisters preceded him in death.
