Description	:	Billie B. Smith of West Yellowstone passed away on March 13, 2009 in Renton, WA. She was 103. Just previous to her death she lived in Issaquah, WA where she made many friends. Billie, her parents, and two siblings, traveled from Missouri to Montana in 1906 and homesteaded at Cliff Lake in the Upper Madison. She graduated high school in California and went to college at the Eastern Montana College of Education where she earned a degree in Education. Smith of West Yellowstone passed away on March 13, 2009 in Renton, WA. She was 103. Just previous to her death she lived in Issaquah, WA where she made many friends. On Dec. 24, 1934 she married, Francis Smith of West Yellowstone and had a daughter, Sherlyn Smith in 1936. Billie worked as a school teacher in West Yellowstone for many years. She would often speak of her many students by name and had very fond memories of them. After retiring from teaching, she and her husband Francis owned and operated The Rawhide and Wagon Wheel trailer courts along with the McQuade cabins in West Yellowstone. Billie was elected the first mayor of West Yellowstone, in 1966. In the winter months her and Francis would warm up in Hemet California. Billie said one of her greatest joys in life was music. She played many instruments including the piano. She also enjoyed many travels around the world and had numerous stories of her adventures. She loved going on cruises and bus tours abroad. Billie is survived by grandchildren Rhett Henkel of Albany OR, Tina Hilderman of Seattle, great grandchild James Hilderman of Seattle and nephew Jerry Stalcup of Anacortes, WA. She also has many great neices and nephews including Ann Monforton of Bozeman and Lynnett Fink of LaConner, WA. Billie was predeceased by her parents, Jerry and Catherine Womack, her daughter Sherlyn Smith in 1971, husband Francis Smith in 1981 and brother and sister, Clovas Womack and Glaydce Thompson both of Ennis. A graveside Service was at the Madison Valley Cemetery in Ennis. Billie was a warm and caring person who lived a long and eventful life. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends and former students. ***************************** On Find a Grave: Upon my headstone photo request. I got this reply. The caretaker was on site with his cemetery register book. According to him the plot for Billie Smith was sold in the 1990's. He also said Billie did not pass away here and was buried somewhere else.
