Description	:	Billie Ray McCullough, 93, of Cory, Indiana, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on February 20, 2019 following a brief illness. Bill was born September 15, 1925, in Cory, Indiana, the son of Emery and Edna (Price) McCullough. Bill graduated from Cory High School with the class of 1943. He served his country in the United States Naval Reserve from 1943 until 1946 and then in the Unites States Army from 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948. Read More	Billie Ray McCullough, 93, of Cory, Indiana, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on February 20, 2019 following a brief illness. Bill was born September 15, 1925, in Cory, Indiana, the son of Emery and Edna (Price) McCullough. Bill graduated from Cory High School with the class of 1943. He served his country in the United States Naval Reserve from 1943 until 1946 and then in the Unites States Army from 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948. Upon his return home he began purchasing his family’s farm. Bill worked part time as a farmer but most of his life lived as a public servant. He held many county offices including Perry Township Advisory Board, Clay County Circuit Court Clerk, Clay County Recorder, and Clay County Treasurer. He also served as the Clerk of the Supreme and Appellate Courts at the Indiana State House in Indianapolis for 8 years. Bill married Margaret Ruth Bettenbrock on July 8, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2018. Together they were members and attended the Cory Zion Church for 65 years. They loved family gatherings, attending and supporting their children and grandchildren’s activities, cutting 5 acres of grass every summer, farming, campaigning, gardening and going to MCL Cafeteria. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Emery and Edna McCullough; and his wife Ruth McCullough; sister and brother-in-law Bettie and Bill Fell; brother-in-law Lee Bond; and a niece Sherree Fell. Survivors include his two daughters: Lana Hendrix and husband Lloyd of Cory and Karla Smith and husband Tim of Terre Haute; 4 grandchildren: Landon Wellman (Kari) of Lafayette, Carson Hendrix (Melinda) of Lafayette, Brooklyn Nelson (David) of Johnson City, TN, and Sophia Smith of Terre Haute; 2 great-grandchildren: Blaire and Grady Wellman of Lafayette; his sister Jessie Bond of Huntsville, Alabama; two nieces Suzanne Fehrenbach (Steve) of Cory and Jennifer Cash (Gordon) of Huntsville, Alabama; a nephew Greg Bond of Montana. Funeral services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East Eighth Street, Clay City, Indiana 47841 on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 1:00pm with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home, on Saturday, from 11am until time of services.
