Wright, was born in West Union, June 1, 1922, and received his education in the local schools, graduating from West Union High in 1940. With the thought of learning something that would help him through his college years, Billy, became an apprentice in the Union office after his graduation, and spent several months; as a member of our mechanical force. Billy enlisted in the marines in August, 1942, and was given a year at the University of Iowa, at Iowa City. He was called into active service July 23, 1943, and was sent to the marine base at San Diego, Calif., where he became drill instructor. On Sept. 16, 1944, he was shipped overseas to some place in the South Pacific, and on April 1, the division to which he was attached landed on Okinawa. He was killed in action there on May 19, 1945. Surviving are his parents, Dr. and Mrs. H. S. Wright, West Union, a twin sister, Barbara, Mrs. Jim Christ, Des Moines, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Harriet Bacon, Randalia.
