We was also a... Read More	Billy Bob Dorrel, 94, died on Saturday, January 1, 2022, in Sioux Falls, SD. Billy Bob was born on February 26, 1927, in Clarence, Missouri to Glenn and Virginia Dorrel. He enjoyed telling stories about his childhood in Clarence. His father owned many businesses including a blowing alley, grocery store and a pool hall where Billy Bob also worked. Billy Bob graduated from Clarence High School in 1944 and enlisted in United States Navy along with several classmates. He made it out to sea shortly before Japan surrendered, ending World War II. We was also a United States Naval Reserve member and was called back to active duty in the early 1950s. After serving our great nation, he worked as a truck driver and was a Teamster Union member in Flint, Michigan. He then moved to Santa Ana, California to work for his uncle, Charlie, at his office furniture business, Economy Office Equipment. He worked at the business until he retired in the mid 1980s. Billy Bob met the love of his life, Hazel, in his hometown of Clarence, Missouri. The two married in April, 1967 and made the California towns Santa Ana and Laguna Hills their home for many years. They moved to the Sioux Falls area to be closer to family until, after a long bout with cancer, Hazel died in 1993. After the loss of his beloved wife, Billy Bob returned to live in Clarence. He had many friends and was actively involved in his hometown community and was a member of the Clarence Christian Church. He then returned to Sioux Falls in 2009 due to health reasons to live with his daughter, Barbara Dorrel-Christen. In life, Billy Bob enjoyed many activities. He was championship bowler, played tennis and enjoyed walks along the beach at Dana Point with Hazel. He was also an avid golfer, regularly playing the sport into his '90s. He once hit a hole-in-one and made the local paper. Billy Bob also enjoyed fishing and would travel to Canada with friends, the Harveys. He once earned a Manitoba Master Angler certificate for a 41.5-inch Northern Pike caught and released at Sasaginnigak Lake. After returning to Sioux Falls, Billy Bob was a regular at his grandson Chad's screen-printing shop, American Ink. He was always offering a helping hand, telling customers his name was Harry Chinn, and making sure he was part of the lunch break crew. But above all his activities, Billy Bob enjoyed spending time with family friends. He was always up for a good story over a beer or a game of cards. Billy Bob was proceeded in death by his wife Hazel, two grandsons, Christian Cochran and Matthew Burns, his parents Glenn and Virginia and stepson and daughter-in-law Donald and Kathy Burns. Survivors include his daughter Barbara (Jesse) Christen, step-daughter Judy Ashton and step-son James (Laurel) Burns, all of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Billy Bob's life will be held at Heritage Funeral Home (4800 S Minnesota, Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57108) on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 2 pm.
