Billy was born on October 25, 1924, in Clarence, Missouri, the son of Roy Burnham and Lorene Mae Sanner Wood. He was united in marriage to Nadean Elizabeth Farmer in 1949. She survives. Billy was born on October 25, 1924, in Clarence, Missouri, the son of Roy Burnham and Lorene Mae Sanner Wood. He was united in marriage to Nadean Elizabeth Farmer in 1949. She survives. He is survived by six children: Brenda Wood of Osage Beach, Gayle (Bruce) Wieberg of Keytesville, Darla Fifer of Kenai, Alaska, Brent Wood of Clarence, Betsy Byers (Steve) of Jefferson City, and Mark (Lara) Wood of Des Moines, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, Mollie Trogdon (Kevin), Aaron Wieberg (Mindy), Curtis Wieberg (Courtney), Mason Wood, Hannah Wood, Ross Wood, Brock Wood, Clara Wood, Alexandra Milner, Marcus Milner, Hayley Byers, Josh Byers, Lindsey Byers, Dominic Wood (Candy) and Haley Wood; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings: Jack Wood of Clarence, Anna Lou Gaines of Fairway, Kansas, Jerry Wood (Sabra) of O’Fallon, Linda Boleach (Larry) of Kirksville; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Sam Wood, Jim Wood, Richard Wood, Bob Collins, Jr.; three sisters: Frances Wood, Tresia Magruder, Aloa Wood; and cousin, Betty Barr, who was raised as a sister. Billy graduated from Clarence High School in 1943. He served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II, after which, he returned to Shelby County to farm with his brother, Jack. He served on the Clarence School Board and was a founding board member of the Shelby Co. R-IV School District. He was a member of the NFO (National Farmers Organization) in northeast Missouri and also served a number of years on the Shelby County Farmers Mutual Insurance Board and was a member of the Macon Elks Lodge. He was a Christian by faith. Billy enjoyed traveling, especially three trips to Alaska on the Alaskan Highway, was a fan of St. Louis Cardinal baseball, and loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, especially their sporting events. Billy was an expert cattleman and enjoyed going to cattle sales. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence, Missouri. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 4pm to 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Union Grove Cemetery, south of Clarence.
