Description	:	Bill was born July 4, 1927 to Daisy and James "Bus" Morgan in their Cottonwood home. He died peacefully September 8, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, Bill was 82. After attending school in Cottonwood and then graduating from Anderson High School, Bill went into the Navy and fought in World War II. When he got out of the Navy he returned to Cottonwood and became a night watchman, and eventually he became a Shasta County Deputy. Read More	Bill was born July 4, 1927 to Daisy and James "Bus" Morgan in their Cottonwood home. He died peacefully September 8, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, Bill was 82. After attending school in Cottonwood and then graduating from Anderson High School, Bill went into the Navy and fought in World War II. When he got out of the Navy he returned to Cottonwood and became a night watchman, and eventually he became a Shasta County Deputy. His love of civil service grew and he joined the Cottonwood Volunteer fire dept. in 1945. Years later, in 1968, Bill became the first paid Fire Chief in Cottonwood, where he retired in 1990. A man of the outdoors, Bill had a number of hobbies and took great pleasure in hunting, fishing and helping the people of Cottonwood any way he could. Whether it was helping fight fires, lending his hands during floods, assisting with medical calls or even getting rattlesnakes from under peoples' houses, it brought Bill joy to be an integral part of the community. In 1946 he married Iris (Elder) Willie. Bill is preceded in death by a brother Richard. Bill is survived by his wife, Iris; son Billy J. Morgan Jr., also of Cottonwood; sister Betty Hesterberg of Bozeman, Mont.; three grandchildren Nick Morgan, Jeremy Fagan Morgan and Casey Morgan; and his three nephews and eight nieces. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday September 14, 2009 at Cottonwood Cemetery (20499 First St) with a reception to immediately follow at the Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, Bill would like to have donations made to the Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Dept.
