He was born February 18, 1924 in Ottumwa to Albert Dee and Margaret Walker Amos. He married Frances “Jean” Morris January 25, 1942 in Kirkville, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 7, 1979. He was a class officer, was very active in high... Read More	OTTUMWA- Billy M. “Jug” Amos, 92, of Ottumwa, died at 9 p.m. September 24, 2016 at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. He was born February 18, 1924 in Ottumwa to Albert Dee and Margaret Walker Amos. He married Frances “Jean” Morris January 25, 1942 in Kirkville, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 7, 1979. He married Joyce Armstrong in 1982. She preceded him in death March 29, 2013. A resident of Ottumwa all his life, he attended Franklin School and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1942. He was a class officer, was very active in high school sports and American Legion Baseball. Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served with the 149th Combat Engineer Battalion Special Services Brigade during the invasion of France at Omaha Beach, Normandy and Northern France. He went to the 17th Armed Division during the Battle of the Bulge. He served in the ETO from D-Day to Berlin receiving the Silver Star medal. He also received several other prestigious medals and other citations. He was an electrician with Iowa Southern Utilities for 37 years in the line department, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a 60 year member of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. where he was Past Master in 1954 and 2009. He was a lifetime member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. He was a member of the Ottumwa Men’s Bowling Hall of Fame, Wapello County Historical Society, Civil War Round Table and A-Club as well as a long time member of the Cedar Creek Golf Course and IBEW. Surviving are 3 sons and 2 daughters; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step-children; a sister; a brother; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert Amos. Graveside services and burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
