OBITUARY: Mrs. Birdie Wilkey Succumbs Today Death Comes To Well Known Resident At Home North West Of City. Mrs. Birdie Thixtun Wilkey, widow of the late Charles Wilkey, died at the residence northwest of Sullivan about seven o'clock this morning. Mrs. Wilkey had been seriously ill for about one week. Mr. Wilkey died eight years ago. Her father-in-law, Polk Wilkey, aged Civil War veteran, died last December 19th. She was the daughter of W.H. and Emma Thixtun and was a native of Illinois. However, she had resided in this county since childhood. Besides many friends who mourn her death, the following relatives survive; two children, Mrs. Gladys Huff and Norman Wilkey, both of this county; three grandchildren, Edith, Wayne and Lucille Huff, and one brother, Fred, of Moline, Illinois. Mrs. Wilkey was born July 29th, 1872. She was a member of the Sullivan Christian Church, and her funeral services will be conducted there at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. E.C. Corts officiating. Interment will be made in Center Ridge Cemetery. OBITUARY: Birdie Emma, daughter of W.H. and Emma DeBaun Thixtun, was born in Shelby County, Illinois, July 29, 1872 and departed this life Feb. 4, 1935, at the age of 62 years, 6 months and 6 days. When a small child the family moved to Indiana. The rest of her childhood was spent in and around Fairbanks. About the year 1890, the family moved to Sullivan, and operated the Arlington Hotel. On June 18, 1902, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Wilkey, and to this union were born two children, Gladys and Norman. The husband and father departed this life eight years ago. In early life she joined the Christian Church of Middletown, and later transferred her membership to Sullivan, where her membership was at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, and three brothers. She leaves to survive her one daughter, Mrs. Gladys Huff; one son, Norman Wilkey; three grandchildren, Edith, Wayne, and Lucille Huff, and one brother, Fred Thixtun of Moline, Ill. Birdie was always kind and obedient, taking a great interest in the welfare of all who were in need of sympathy and assistance. Many, many friends mourn her departure and were it not for the glorious fact that she is in the realm of everlasting happiness, their grief would be inconsolable. OBITUARY: Mrs. Wilkey Paid Tribute In Rites Rites for Mrs. Birdie Wilkey, who died Monday morning at the residence northwest of Sullivan, were conducted from the Christian Church Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Wilkey was a devoted member of that congregation. Rev. E.C. Corts, pastor of the church, officiated at the impressive services. A quartet composed of David Brown, John Harbaugh, Mrs. Ernest Myers and Mrs. H.P. McCreery sang hymns, and Mrs. Floyd Wilson and Mrs. Walter Steele, neighbors and good friends of Mrs. Wilkey, sang a favorite hymn. Miss Tressa Wolfe played the organ accompaniment. Pall bearers were Base Burnett, Virgil Burnett, W.A. Wilkey, Win Wilkey, Charles Bottorf and Elmer Wilkey. The beautiful floral offerings were carried by Edith Huff, Frances Moore, Thelma Daniels, Martha Daniels, Fern Brown, Josephine Wilkey, and Juanita Wilkey. The services were largely attended by friends and relatives of Mrs. Wilkey. Interment was in Center Ridge Cemetery. ~~ I ONLY LIST FAMILY MEMBERS. ~~
