Finch, 84, Longtime Manly Resident Dies Tuesday, Nov. 30 Blanchard R. Finch, 84, longtime Manly resident, dies at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center West Campus in Mason City on Tuesday, November 30, 1993, following a long illness. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon, December 2, 1993 at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly at 2 p.m. The Rev. Marvin Cleair, pastor, will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Manly cemetery, with the Bride Colonial Chapel in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Selected as honorary pallbearers are William Weber, Bob Humphrey, Gary Statlander, Delos Werle and Irvin Benjegerdes. Active pallbearers selected are Donald Gage, John Weber, Dennis Blanchard, Donald Erion, Bradley Weber and Raymond Blanchard. Carolyn Benjegerdes, organist, will accompany Carolyn Jackel as she sings "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art", and the congregation as they sing "The Old Rugged Cross." Blanchard Rueben Finch was born March 2, 1909 in Kensett, Iowa the son of Ira and Blanch (Dernek) Finch. At an early age the family moved to Plymouth, where Blanchard graduated from the Plymouth High School in 1929. He was married to Ruth A. Werle on April 1, 1934 in Mason City, Iowa. They made their home in Manly. He was employed for Gibbs Cook Caterpillar as a mechanic for over 30 years, retiring in 1971. He and his wife owned and operated the Finch Greenhouse for 23 years, and also he has as his hobby repairing small engines and did much of that kind of work until his health failed him. He also enjoyed travelling. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, and Manly Senior Citizens. Preceding him in death were his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Finch of Manly; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Erion, Mason City, Mrs. John (Fern) Weber, Osage, Iowa, and Mrs. Donald (Deborah) Gage, Osage, Iowa. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Paul (Grace) Theimann, Klemme, Iowa; six grandchildren, Dennis Blanchard, Clear Lake, Raymond Blanchard, Manly, Nancy Statlander, Hanlontown, William Weber, Osage, Bradley Weber, Clear Lake, and Jennifer DeKruif, Osage; and seven great grandchildren, Misty, Crystal, Dwight, Peter and Philip Blanchard; Alicia Weber, and Cameron DeKruif. ----------- Above obituary provided by his daughter, Deborah (Deb) Gage.
