She met and married Herbert Lee Peelman in 1932 and to this union seven children were born. In the early years she was a cook in a restaurant in Vevay. Later in life after two more marriages, she and her husband, Roger, lived on a farm and raised milk cows, tobacco, and a huge garden, of which she canned or froze most of what they grew.
