Jacobs, 88, of rural Rose Hill, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born November 21, 1920 at Martinsburg, the daughter of Carl Leslie and Beryl H. Street Smith. On January 7, 1941, she was united in marriage to Elmer E. Jacobs in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa, and Elmer died on April 12, 2000. Together they farmed in the Delta and Rose Hill area the rest of their lives. Blanche was a member of the Rose Hill Community Church and its ladies circle; the Rose Hill Ruritan Club; and a former member of the Union Chapel Sewing Club, Thrifty Homemakers, and T.O.P.S. Blanche enjoyed bowling, bank bus trips, and her cats and dog. Blanche's family includes her sons: Jim (& Sharon) Jacobs of rural Delta and John Jacobs of Rose Hill; a daughter: Janice (& Richard) Sytsma of Indianola; four grandchildren: Teresa (Travis) Dawson, Jason (Brynna), Kyle, and Mathew Sytsma; two great grandchildren: Evan and Erin Dawson; and a brother: Lloyd (& Loretta) Smith of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. Besides her husband, Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; a stillborn daughter, Loretta; two brothers: Vernon and Leo Smith; and five sisters: Irene Myers, Ruth Reinier, Dorothy Reinier, Grace Smothers Campbell, and Myrtle Bell. Funeral services for Blanche Jacobs will be held Monday, April 13, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Del Bittner officiating, assisted by the Reverend Ralph Sprunk. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Sunday after 2 p.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Sunday from 3 – 5 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Rose Hill Community Church.
