Blanche was born on December 23, 1920, to Martin and Hannah (Hanson) Rood, in Cooperstown, ND. She attended school in Cooperstown graduating in 1938. On June 24, 1942, she married Norton Stangeland of Fillmore, ND. In 1943, they moved to Seattle, WA, and she worked for the Pacific Water Works Inc. Read More	Blanche Mildred Stangeland, age 93, of Carrington, ND, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND. Blanche was born on December 23, 1920, to Martin and Hannah (Hanson) Rood, in Cooperstown, ND. She attended school in Cooperstown graduating in 1938. On June 24, 1942, she married Norton Stangeland of Fillmore, ND. In 1943, they moved to Seattle, WA, and she worked for the Pacific Water Works Inc. In 1944, they returned to North Dakota and settled in Carrington where she lived the remainder of her years. In Carrington she was the Executive Secretary of the Selective Service for 17 years, and was City Librarian for 25 years. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, having served on the church council and taught Sunday school, and vacation bible school for many years. Blanche was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Choir for 52 years. She was a widow for 40 years. She was fiercely independent with an indomitable spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She was always kind and cheerful to everyone she met. She was a wonderful example to her family, even with the difficulties of advancing age. Blanche is survived by a daughter Deborah Lassere; one grandson, one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; her very special niece; a brother Stanley Rood; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Norton; one son Jeffrey, her parents and two brothers, Milton and Leonard Rood; two sisters Hazel Leininger and Eliane Brosnahan.
