He was born on November 11, 1925 in Pratt, KS, the son of Jay B. Rutan and Clara M. (Bunting) Rutan. He was the youngest of three children. Bob lived in Pratt until the age of 14 when the family moved to Medicine Lodge and his father established Rutan Confectionary. Read More	Bob Gene Rutan, 89, of Medicine Lodge, KS, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt, KS. He was born on November 11, 1925 in Pratt, KS, the son of Jay B. Rutan and Clara M. (Bunting) Rutan. He was the youngest of three children. Bob lived in Pratt until the age of 14 when the family moved to Medicine Lodge and his father established Rutan Confectionary. He attended Medicine Lodge High School and spent twenty six months in the U.S. Navy in World War II. In 1948 he started his career as a self employed carpenter and in 1953 founded Shaw & Rutan Construction with partner Lester Shaw. In 1976, he became sole owner, until 1993 when his son, Mike founded Rutan Construction, Inc. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Bunting and Rutan who were both carpenters in Stafford County. On October 5, 1956 he married Margaret Jane (Colborn) Rutan of Medicine Lodge, KS in the First Christian Church in Medicine Lodge, KS. They had three children, Teresa Gay, Michele Dawn, and Michael Jay. He was a devoted husband and father. Bob was a member of the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, the American Legion, and Delta Lodge #77, Masonic. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay & Clara, his wife, Margaret, and his sisters, Margaret Vaughn and Betty Frisbie. Surviving are two daughters, one son, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104 on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, KS with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS with graveside military and masonic rites. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
