Description	:	CHAPIN – Mrs. Bobbie Laney Hayes, widow of Raymond J. Hayes, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012. She was born on February 7, 1929 in Pageland, SC to Robert L. and Thelma Saunders Laney. Bobbie was a graduate of Pageland High School and attended School of Art in Taipei, Taiwan for two years. Read More	CHAPIN – Mrs. Bobbie Laney Hayes, widow of Raymond J. Hayes, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012. She was born on February 7, 1929 in Pageland, SC to Robert L. and Thelma Saunders Laney. Bobbie was a graduate of Pageland High School and attended School of Art in Taipei, Taiwan for two years. She was a member of the International Wives Club in Taiwan. Bobbie took a course in Conversational French while living in France. She took three courses at USC: Bible, East Asian History and European History. Bobbie belonged to many organizations and was an active participant in most – Garden Club, Lexington County Republican Party and Women's Club, Book Club and a Bible Study Group in Irmo. For a time she also taught Art Appreciation in Chapin Middle School and French in elementary school. She was an active member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church except for the last couple of years due to failing health. Her husband, Ray, was a military man which took the family to many countries with Michael being born in Tokyo, Japan. They lived in Japan, France and Taiwan and traveled to many other places including the Philippines, Thailand, Germany and Spain. Mrs. Hayes is survived by her two sons, Randy and wife, Nedra, Mike and wife, Linda; sister, Peggy L. Cranfield and husband, Jim of Kannapolis, NC and son-in-law, William R. Herndon, Sr. of Pooler, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren starting with the oldest, William R. Herndon, Jr., Travis B. Hayes and wife, Gina, Joshua S. Hayes, Ramon M. Hayes and wife, Brandi, Benjamin M. Hayes and Daniel G. Hayes. She also has 9 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Ray Hayes on February 1, 1997; daughter, Wendy Herndon; sisters, Thelma Steele and Sarah L. Phillips; brothers, Jimmy Laney and Denny Laney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012, which is Bobbie and Ray's anniversary date, at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church in Chapin, SC with interment in the church cemetery. Her six grandsons will be the pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may be made to the church, 101 East Boundary Street, Chapin, SC 29036.
