His early years were spent in Winona where he attended school and graduated from high school. On Sept. 20, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dixie P. Johnson. To this happy union one daughter, LaRhonda, was born. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife Dixie, his daughter, LaRhonda Price of Mtn. View; his brother, Bill Gardner of Van Buren; his sister, Margaret Wakefield of Winona, and two grandchildren, Gary and Jill Price of Mtn. View. He professed his faith in Christ and was baptised on June 18, 1951, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winona. The love of God was felt in his happy marriage and all through his family. Cork, as everyone knew him, was employed by U.S. Forest Service for 25 years. In his work Cork was loved and respected by his co-workers and by the public he was in contact with each day. Cork's reputation was one of integrity, honesty, dependability, and he was looked upon as a leader and friend. He was always interested and willing to help in any affairs of the community. He served on the City Council for several years and was actively involved in the formation and establishment of the Winona Medical Clinic. The values and ideals instilled by his parents were evident in his daily life. He cherished his rich heritage and gave freely of himself to all who knew and loved him. "As the bird free of its cage seeks the heights, so the Christian soul in death flies home to God." Services were held Friday, Sept. 26, 1980, at 1:00 p.m. at the Duncan Funeral Home in Winona, Mo., with Rev. Gerald Burner of West Plains, Mo., officiating. John Duncan provided a message in song. U.S. Forest Service personnel served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery at Winona, under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home.
