Odens, resident of Lyon County for nearly fifty years, was found dead at the wheel of his automobile Thursday afternoon, on Highway No. 9 a half mile west of Sibley. The car had left the road, probably at a very low rate of speed, stopping in the ditch when it ran into a snow bank. According to Dr. Frank Reinsch, Osceola County Coroner, Mr. Odens' death was caused by a heart attack suffered white driving. Mr. Odens was returning from Sibley to his home in Little Rock when stricken. He was 73 years old. Funeral services were held here Monday, being conducted by Rev. F. Reeverts at the Salem Reformed Church, burial being at the local cemetery. Boldewyn J. S. Odens was born in Westermarsch, Ostfriesland, Germany on October 20, 1862 There he spent the first 14 years of his life. In 1876 he came to America, locating in Grundy County, IA, where on March 21, 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Conradi. To this union were born six children, the first child having died in infancy. Shortly after their marriage, in 1887, Mr., and Mrs. Odens came to Lyon County, locating on a farm near George, where they remained two years. They then moved to a farm west of Rock Rapids, remaining 13 years and then moving to the farm northeast of Little Rock, which they occupied until their retirement in 1916 when they moved to Little Rock. Mr. Odens' home was not spared of its share of sorrow and sadness. In the year 1929 his beloved wife departed this life, and on July 4, 1933, his daughter, Mrs. C. F. Christians, passed on into eternity. Mr. Odens was a member of the Salem Reformed Church, and was a good husband, father and citizen, who was held in the highest respect by all who knew him. He is survived by three sons: Henry, Fred and John; and one daughter, Anna; a sister: Mrs. Wm. Alfke; two half-sisters: Mrs. John Block and Miss Mabel Odens, a half-brother: John Odens; , his step-mother, Mrs., B. Odens, and nineteen grandchildren. (Little Rock Free Lance, January 9, 1936)
