Bonnie was born December 29, 1925, at home in Plainfield Ia. She was the daughter of Gailerd Leroy and Helen Viola (Smith) Smith. She received her education in Plainfield graduating in 1944. On June 9, 1946 she was united in marriage to James Albert Jermier by the Justice of Peace in Osage, IA. Bonnie was born December 29, 1925, at home in Plainfield Ia. She was the daughter of Gailerd Leroy and Helen Viola (Smith) Smith. She received her education in Plainfield graduating in 1944. On June 9, 1946 she was united in marriage to James Albert Jermier by the Justice of Peace in Osage, IA. They started their married life in Plainfield until 1948 when they moved to Ames, IA where Jim completed his veterinary degree. Once completed, they moved to Cedar Falls to start their family. In 1955 Jim and Bonnie moved to Brooklyn to start working in Veterinary Medicine. 1957 found Jim and Bonnie moving back to Ames so Jim could teach anatomy at the College. They were on the move again in 1961 to Brooklyn, IA where they joined Dr. Barclay as a partner in Brooklyn Veterinary Clinic. Their final “JOB” was in 1973 when together they purchased and managed Jermier Variety Store until 1986. While managing the store they decided to purchase a “Hobby Farm” near Deep River. Together they put their love and heart into the farm from tearing down buildings to building new buildings…..making due with what they had. 22 years later they made their final move to Dallas Center Ia to be closer to their boys. Family was important to Bonnie. She had two sisters and being the story teller she was she would write everything down she could about her youth. One of her favorites was her love for tap dancing. All of the Grandkids and Great Grandkids would get a demonstration of just how it was done. Bonnie was an organizer. She was known for planning events and organizing from start to finish. One of the first events she planned was theme parties for the wives of the Vet students. It continued on thru organizing church bazaars, PEO activities, AFS events, Sunday School teaching, Circle, and UMW events. Anything to do with food was very dear to her heart. From raising the garden, canning, and growing her own spices she was very happy with the time on the farm. Bonnie loved to go to some place and sample new foods. She then would go home and try to recreate it without a recipe…a lot of times improving on the original. Her reading material was cookbooks - making notes in the margins of how she changed the recipe. Most memorable is her bread. She baked bread for all holidays and meals for the family. At the age of 91 she was still making her bread for Jim and her. As an artist she dabbled at painting. Her sons knew her for her pictures she would paint, women knew her for her quilts she made, and the grandkids knew her for the Painted Gourd Santa Claus and handmade Christmas ornaments. As you can see, Bonnie was a very dedicated Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, a grandson Christopher and a brother-in-law Gerald piper. Bonnie is survived by her sons, Stevan Jermier and David (Brenda) Jermier, both of Dallas Center; grandchildren Matt (Katie) Jermier of Waukee, and Julie (Chris) Watson of Littleton Co, granddaughter-in-law Cali Jermier of Grimes, her great grandchildren; Bryce, Ellie, Macey, Kale and Madden Jermier, Tyson, Jalen, and Quentin Watson, two sisters: Mary Piper and Judy (Norman) Carbiener and two foreign exchange students: Robert Jansson of Sweden and Eliatan Machado of Brazil. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn IA or Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
