Burial will follow at the Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ. The family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Thursday. Bonnie Ilene Marguerite Dull was born on September 10, 1921, in Avalon, Missouri, the only child of Harry E. and Ann (Robertson) Burgard. The family moved to Le Mars when Bonnie was a young girl. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1939 and furthered her education at Western Union (Westmar) College. Bonnie majored in in English and history and minored in music and speech, receiving her degree in May 1943. On July 15, 1943, Bonnie and Paul E. Dull were united in marriage in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, while Paul was serving in the U.S. Navy. After the war they returned to Iowa, where Paul attended law school at the University of Iowa. During the next 20 years they reared a family and moved about with his career. They returned to Le Mars in 1964. Bonnie was an active member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars and was an ordained deacon. An outstanding community servant, Bonnie spent 12 years on the Le Mars City Council and held 2 terms as mayor. She was the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1987. She also served as president of the Northwest Iowa League of Municipalities. Bonnie was a member of and active with the AO Chapter of TTT, Le Mars Lions Club, Le Mars Women’s Club, Le Mars Arts Council, and sang with the Sweet Adelines. One of Bonnie’s passions was acting and the theater. She was a founding member, officer, and board member of the Postal Playhouse. Along with performing in numerous plays, she also directed many of the productions. When she could find time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing bridge, entertaining, and a little red wine and single malt scotch. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Paula Niemann of Higden, AR, daughter-in-law, Anne Dull of Hilton Head, SC, daughter-in-law, Lynn Dull of Spring Valley, CA, Margarett Britton of Le Mars, Mark (Tamie Treiber) Dull of Hills, IA, Beverly Burik of Maritetta, GA, William (Tami Tanner) Dull of Spirit Lake, IA, Daniel (Lynn) Dull of Marietta, GA and Donald (Teresa) Dull of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Bill Scott, Jim Dull, Peter Dull, Charmaine Dull, Courtney DePalma, Jamie Washington, Katie Goulding, Will Britton, Sara Britton, TJ Britton, Sam Dull, Amy Dull, Max Dull, Jackie Deppe, Matthew Dull, Nickie Brock, Jennifer Dull, Kelly Bartlett, Daniel Dull, and Celeste Dull; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul E. Dull; sons, Dennis James Dull and Thomas Jay Dull; granddaughters, Kelly Scott and Elizabeth Burik; grandson, Jeffrey Dull; and sons-in-law, John Britton and Joe Niemann.
