Bridgewater Bulletin Borden Hirtle, aged 29 years, a native of Pleasant River, Queens County, was instantly killed early yesterday morning at the Montague Gold Mines, eight miles from Dartmouth. Hirtle, who was employed on the night shift, was on the 200 foot level and it is thought that he either fell asleep or leaned out over the shaft and was struck on the head by the cage. Mrs. Hirtle will accompany the remains to Pleasant River this morning for interment. ------------------------------------------------ Mrs. Blanche Viola Hirtle 1955 Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Blanche Viola Hirtle, widow of the late Borden Hirtle, passed away in Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater,early on Wednesday morning, after a short illness. She was the former Blanche Viola Cross, daughter of Mrs. Ambrose Cross and the late Mr. Cross, of Hebbville, where she was born fifty-eight years ago. Her husband, Borden Hirtle, predeceased her thirty years ago. Mrs. Hirtle was a former resident of Bridgewater, moving to Chester four years ago. Besides her mother, Mrs. Hirtle is survived by a son, Louis Hirtle of Wileville; and a daughter, Elsie , of Whynacht's Settlement; and two grandchildren, Herlin and Helen Hirtle; by two brothers, Alton Cross of Wileville; and Walter Cross of Bridgewater; by two sisters, Annie (Mrs. Fred Ritcey) of Bridgewater and Mary (Mrs. S.W. MacGinnis) of Mahone Bay. The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday from Wamback's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, Rev. Roland Farwell, Rector of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, officiating. Interment was in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. The hymns sung were "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and "Abide With Me" at the graveside of the family lot in Brookside Cemetery. The pall bearers were Lester Foley, Fred Wile, Llloyd Wile, Lepean Oickle, Nepean Robar, and Edison Robar.
