Heat prostration incurred while stacking straw in the barn on his farm caused the death of Bowden S. Russell, of sourthwest Corwin Township Monday afternoon. Russell collapses after coming out of barn on Monday and passed away July 26, 1937. Heat prostration incurred while stacking straw in the barn on his farm caused the death of Bowden S. Russell, of sourthwest Corwin Township Monday afternoon. The day was not particularly hot, the maximum in Ida Grove being 85 degrees in the shade. It is supposed that the absence of fresh air in the loft caused Mr. Russell's seizure. It is said that Mr. Russell had eaten a very hearty dinner a short time before having taken ill. Mr. Russell died about 2:30 p.m. after he climbed down from the haymow of his barn where straw was being blown from the threshing machine. He collapsed as he left the barn. Threshers carried him to the porch of his home and summoned a physician. Medical aid and resuscitation did not revive him, and he died shortly afterward. Mr. and Mrs. Russell had lived on the farm, which they occupied in southwest Corwin Township for 12 years. Born in Johnson County, near Iowa City , Iowa, in 1884, Mr. Russell and his parents, Esau and Josephine Russell, came to Ida County in 1886. In 1907, he moved to British Columbia, where he farmed, but returned in 1918. He was again in Canada before 1923 when he returned again to Ida County to farm. Mr. Russell was married to Ruth Elizabeth Wheatcroft April 7, 1914. Their sons are Robert, Arthur, Ernest Esau, and Dan Richard. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Josephine Benedict, his widow, three sons, and two brothers, Sylvan of Olds, Alberta, and Carman of Ida Grove as Ida Grove rural mail carrier. Funeral services were held at the Russell home at 2 p.m. and at the Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. John V. Madison officiated.
