Description	:	Boyce is the son of Jesse Davenport McCuen and Ella Salena Rodgers. He was born in Atlanta, GA and spent his early years in Etowah, AL where his father worked in a cotton mill. His father was killed in a mill accident in Decatur, GA when Boyce was 5 years old. His mother took the children to FL where sister, Lois Christine, was born four years later. Read More	Boyce is the son of Jesse Davenport McCuen and Ella Salena Rodgers. He was born in Atlanta, GA and spent his early years in Etowah, AL where his father worked in a cotton mill. His father was killed in a mill accident in Decatur, GA when Boyce was 5 years old. His mother took the children to FL where sister, Lois Christine, was born four years later. The family then came to SC where Boyce's mother married a Confederate veteran, William Franklin Davis, and with him had several more children. Boyce walked with a limp for most of his life having injured his hip as a boy by jumping from the upper floor of their home into a sandpile below during a time when stairs were being built. He was said to have developed "white swelling" (osteomyelitis) from the injury. At age 14 Boyce admittedly threatened to kill his stepfather should he again apply a beating to his younger half-brother and his stepfather's response was to kick him out of the home. So Boyce made his way to Atlanta, GA and learned the trade of electrician. Boyce married Jessie Jane Garrison on 20 Nov 1918 and the following year he began doing business as Imperial Electric. He would in time be employed by Huntington And Guerry Electric Company and teach his son, Boyce, Jr the trade. He and Jessie are the parents of eight children. Boyce supported the family working as an electrician. He enjoyed fishing, camping and the Atlanta Braves' games. When he was feeling low he'd call out to his wife, "Jess, play the Humoresque" and, being a talented pianist, she would.
