He died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at the Golden Living Center. --- Boyd William Cunningham, son of William and Nina (Caster) Cunningham, was born June 5, 1916, at Randolph. He attended Cedar County rural schools. In 1999, he received his honorary high school diploma from the State of Nebraska Department of Education. On March 7, 1944, he was married to Ellen Brummels at Fort Dix, N.J. Seven children were born to them, Charles, Wanda, Peggy, Janelle, Lou Ann, Thomas, and Myrna. They lived in Randolph, where he was employed by the Chevrolet Dealership, working in parts and sales. In 1964, he began farming until 1979. He also worked for Johnson Lumber Co. and was a Pioneer Seed salesman for many years. He was baptized while serving with the U.S. military on Feb. 1, 1944, by Chaplain James C. Dean and was confirmed on March 22, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Randolph. Boyd was a member of Thabor Lutheran Church in Wausa, where he was the head usher from 1971 until 1993. He was also a lifetime member of Roy Carlson VFW Post 584, the Disabled American Veteran's, and American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army from March of 1942 to November of 1945. He was present at Utah Beach for the D-Day Invasion and was wounded on June 11, 1944, receiving the Purple Heart. He served many years as a 4-H leader for Knights of Knox 4-H Club and later the KC Ramblers 4-H Club. He had served as a member of the Randolph Public School Board, Thabor Lutheran Church Council and various committees. He is survived by his wife, Ellen of Wausa; children and their spouses, Charles and Mary Cunningham of Littleton, Colo., Wanda and Marvin Johnson of Bloomfield, Peggy Cunningham and Barbara Laska of Houston, Texas, Janelle Biernbaum of Raymore, Mo., Lou Ann Cunningham and Walter Durkin of Tampa, Fla., Thomas and Shirley Cunningham of Wausa, and Myrna and John Seagren of Bloomfield; 15 grandchildren, Mike Cunningham, Michael and Jamie Johnson, Jason and Dawn Johnson, Laurie and Matt Neely, W. Justin Cunningham, Melissa and Austin Kateusz, Aaron Cunningham, Kristin and Andy Walker, M. Todd Cunningham, Brittani Seagren, Christopher Cunningham, Hannah Seagren, Alex Cunningham, Melville Seagren and Jennifer Diehl; eight great-grandchildren, Samantha, Logan, Kaeli, Rylie, and Darby Neely, Michaela and Emelie Johnson, and Isabella Kateusz; brothers and sisters, Vera Remington of Yankton, S.D., Dale Cunningham of Randolph, Eva Dowling of Idaho, Lelia Brummels of Randolph, Flo Lenzen of Laurel, Doris Dowling of Hastings, Helen Burgel of Randolph, Audrey Hinricks of Dixon, Wilma Wiemers of Laurel, Alice Moehlenhoff of Creighton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Galen Biernbaum, three sisters, Aulda Cunningham, Velma Dowling and Irma Remington.
