Description	:	Brian Fitzgerald, 61, of Des Moines and formerly of Boone, died on February 12, 2018 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Following his wishes, Brian has been cremated. A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Burial of his cremains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Brian Cyril Fitzgerald, was born in Ames, Iowa on June 10, 1956, the son of John and Gertrude 'Trude' Fitzgerald. He graduated from Boone High School in 1974. In 1976, Brian enlisted with the Iowa Army National Guard and served for 18 1/2 years. Throughout his years, he worked in food service as a processor, in food preparation, and as a cook. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, jogging, bicycling, country music, and watching western movies and sport on television. Brian had a sense of humor all his own, an attention to detail and everything had a place. He is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers-in-law, Bob Reedholm, Mark Baum, and Chuck Forgy. Brian is survived by two brothers, John (Donna) Fitzgerald of Cary, North Carolina and Eric Fitzgerald of Boone; eight sisters, Karen (Merle) Leichliter of Boone, Donna (John) Jameson and Linda (Denny) Busby both of Ankeny, Jonell Reedholm of San Diego, California, Laurie (Rick) Gannon of Grand Junction, Jill (Kenton) Brown of Boone, Alice Baum of South Lake Tahoe, California, and Carla Clark of Las Cruces, New Mexico; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Church of the Sacred Heart on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time. The family will be present beginning at 10:00 a.m. In memory of Brian, memorials may be directed to the family.
