Read More	Broadus Willis Bannister June 8, 1933 - April 28, 2021 Belton, SC Broadus Willis Bannister, 87, of Belton went to his eternal reward on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Born in Belton on June 8, 1933, he was the son of Broadus B. and Marie Kay Bannister. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Danne S. Bannister and siblings Frances Cassidy, Martha King, CAPT Harris Bannister USN(ret) and Jerry Bannister. Willis was a 1951 graduate of Anderson Boys High where he was a standout football player and was selected for the 1950 South Carolina high school all-star game. He was raised on a farm and farmed all of his life. Noted for his high quality fruits and vegetables he supplied a number of local grocery stores and produce stands with produce and he and his wife, Peggy, were fixtures at the Anderson Farmers' Market for over 40 years. In the area of agriculture, in addition to produce farming, he worked for the Department of Agriculture's Agriculture Conservation and Stabilization Service and the agricultural extension services of Clemson University and South Carolina State University where he served over 30 years. He was a certified Master Gardener, was one of the founders of the Master Gardener course in the local area and taught and mentored Master Gardener students. Willis was a founding member of the Broadway Volunteer Fire Department in 1964 and was a fireman and fireman emeritus until his passing serving in a number of leadership roles in the department, including Assistant Chief. He loved his Lord and his church and was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church (formerly Triangle Baptist Church) his entire life. He served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and was the church's music leader for over 70 years. A talented singer, every service was blessed by his booming baritone voice as he led the congregation in song or sang solos. Willis leaves behind his wife of almost 69 years, Peggy Smith Bannister, his brother, Jimmy R. Bannister (Glenda), three children; CAPT Randall W. Bannister, USN(ret) (Cheryl), Margaret B. Cleveland (Carlton), CAPT C. Wesley Bannister, USN(ret) (Suzanne); seven grandchildren; Daniel Bannister (Eryn), Adam Cleveland (Brittany), Danae Langston (Jonathan),Tyler Bannister, Danielle Bannister, Camden Bannister, Ava Bannister; and five great grandchildren; Kinsley Bannister, Witten Cleveland, Jase Langston, London Cleveland and Bodie Langston. Funeral services will be held at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, 1340 Blue Ridge Ave, Belton, on 4 May at 3 PM. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
