Brock was born May 27, 1923, the son of the late Daisy Epperson Wood and Ernest Lee Wood, and was a native of Mount Airy. He was a member of First Friends Meeting in Greensboro. Read More	GREENSBORO - Brockton Earl Wood, 81, of Greensboro died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Whittier Nursing Center, Friends Homes at Guilford. Brock was born May 27, 1923, the son of the late Daisy Epperson Wood and Ernest Lee Wood, and was a native of Mount Airy. He was a member of First Friends Meeting in Greensboro. Brock served in the military during World War II, representing his country in Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Belgium (Battle of the Bulge), and Germany. Receiving numerous medals for distinguished service, he was also a prisoner of war. Returning home to his wife, the late Sue Mae Johnson Wood, Brock worked in the grocery business for over 40 years. He particularly enjoyed his family, traveling, the beach, gardening and going for long walks. Outgoing in nature, Brock was known for his friendly interest in each and every person he encountered. Surviving are his son, David Earl Wood and wife Janice of Greensboro; daughter Suzette Wood Craft and husband Jerry of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Meredith Wood of Chicago, Ill., Kathryn Craft of Arlington, Va., Melissa Craft of Richmond, Va., and Laura Craft of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers Woody Wood and wife Barbara, Tycho Wood and wife Pansy, and Mack Wood and wife Dora Ann, all of Mount Airy; and a sister, Hortense Hall and husband Norris of Rural Hall. The family will gather at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy to receive friends. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Friends Homes at Guilford. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Guard, Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. Pastor Deborah Suess of First Friends Meeting will officiate at both services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Friends Meeting, 2100 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27403 or to Friends Homes at Guilford, Resident Assistance Fund, 925 New Garden Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410. Moody Funeral Home is serving the Wood family.
