Description	:	Bruce Arends Loses Life in Tractor Accident Thursday Bruce Arends, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Arends, was killed at about 5 o'clock Thursday afternoon, November 14, on his father's farm four and a half miles southeast of Ackley when the tractor he was driving overturned, pinning him beneath it. Bruce had taken the tractor to go after the cattle. When he failed to return in about twenty minutes his father went to investigate and found him dead. He reportedly was killed instantly when the machine turned over. Funeral services were held at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. Lee Feero officiating. Prayer service in the family home preceded the funeral. Interment was in the church cemetery. Bruce Alan Arends, the son of Donald and Verjean Gunn Arends, was born at the Eldora Hospital on February 21, 1949. At the age of five and a half months he was baptized by his great-uncle, the Rev. Fred Beving, at Sibley, Iowa. He was a freshman at Ackley-Geneva High School, where he had participated in many of the school's activities. He was a member of the football squad, and played in the school band, with which he had taken the trip to Winnipeg, Canada, last summer. He was active in the Etna Blue Ribbon Boys 4-H Club. He was a faithful member of the Sunday School of the East Friesland Church and of the Senior High Youth Fellowship of his church. Bruce is survived by his parents; a brother, Brian; a sister, Anita; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Arends. He is also survived by his uncles and aunts, Mrs. and Mrs. William Freeseman of Greene, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Buss of Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Arends of Wellsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Petty of Eldora and John Gunn of Owasa.
